Father’s Day Hoopla

My father starts reminding us about Father’s Day around the first of June. Although we have never forgotten to shower him with extra love and gifts on his special day, I think that he sometimes feels that Father’s Day is in competition with the grandeur of Mother’s Day. But it isn’t in our family. Momma just likes things done differently than daddy. :>)

Why because my father is “old school.” He doesn’t like a lot of pomp and circumstance just simple family time. And that may come off as a low-key celebration.

Unlike some father’s who complain about getting another gift that they don’t want, we either ask my father what he wants or he gives us subtle hints (like showing us an advertisement for a product in the paper). And if all else fails, money will definitely do. LOL

Also, we hear statements from him like “Father’s Day will soon be here. Or have you been shopping yet?” And we reply,”What are you talking about? Or didn’t we celebrate that last year?” It’s sort of a running joke between us.

We consult him on exactly what he would like to do or not do on his day. No surprises for dad!

Happy Father’s Day to all of the fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, brothers or sons!
